Biography
James earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. Upon completion of his Master’s, he spent four years working as a Researcher and Development worker in multiple research organizations. His interaction with different ethnic and excluded communities as development worker inspired him to explore the structural issues contributing to health inequalities around the world.
As a third-year graduate student, James is deeply committed to exploring health inequalities through research across social classes. His research aims to comprehend the structural challenges prevalent in both high and low resource setting countries contributing to poor health status. His current research focus includes socioeconomic transitions (mobility) and different markers of health, global politics and health, religion and fertility norms and medical waste management in lower middle-income countries. Additionally, James is keen on investigating the barriers that hinder the realization of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR)—rights guaranteed by international laws and conventions—for marginalized communities in Bangladesh. His work holds significant potential for advancing health equity and advocating for vulnerable populations.
James chose Baylor Sociology because of its special attention to study social forces and their impact on individual health. Additionally, he was drawn to the diverse graduate course offered by Baylor Sociology and the well-structured program. The collaborative and supportive atmosphere between graduate students and faculty members further motivated him, recognizing its potential for real-world application in his future work as a sociologist.
