Degree Requirements
Requirements for a Major in Sociology
Thirty-four (34) semester hours of the following:
- Sixteen (16) semester hours of required courses:
- SOC 1305: Introduction to Sociology
- SOC 3402: Social Statistics (Prerequisite SOC 1305)
- SOC 4381: Methods of Social Research (Prerequisite SOC 3402)
- SOC 4391: Social Theory (Prerequisite SOC 4381)
- SOC 43C9: Senior Colloquium (Prerequisite SOC 4381 and SOC 4391)
- Eighteen (18) semester hours of 3000 - 4000 level sociology electives.
- Only one course from SOC 3360 or SOC 4352 can apply on this requirement.

Requirements for Sociology Major -
Concentration in Health and Society
Thirty-four (34) semester hours of the following:
- Sixteen (16) semester hours of required courses:
- SOC 1305: Introduction to Sociology

- SOC 4381: Methods of Social Research (Prerequisite SOC 3402)
- SOC 4391: Social Theory (Prerequisite SOC 4381)
- SOC 43C9: Senior Colloquium (Prerequisite SOC 4381 and SOC 4391)
- Twelve (12) semester hours from the following:
- SOC 3372, 4353, 4357, 4393.
- Six (6) semester hours from 3000 - 4000 level sociology electives.
- Note: Only one course from SOC 3360 or SOC 4352 can apply on this requirement

Requirements for a Minor in Sociology
Eighteen (18) semester hours from the following:
- SOC 1305: Introduction to Sociology.
- Fifteen (15) semester hours must be 3000 or 4000 level sociology courses.
- Note: Sociology 1305 or consent of the instructor is prerequisite to all 4000 level sociology courses.
