Access, Diversity and Inclusion
As an academic discipline, sociology provides a means to analyze the social nature of human existence and works toward a world that is more tolerant, equitable, and inclusive. Training in sociology expands one’s awareness and appreciation of human diversity. As a department we agree with the university’s aim for greater efforts at inclusion and diversity across the campus. We take seriously the importance of social contexts that can impede successful completion of the PhD and we acknowledge that some of the barriers to success are a result of systemic inequities and bias built into our existing rules and expectations.
